                                      Announcements – Week 1/31 – 2/3

                                    1. College Now @ Hunter College          DEADLINE: 2/2 (ESL) or 2/24 (ABC)
                                    ·         Who: 10-12th graders
                                    ·         What: Take an English as a Second Language (ESL) Writing Class (10th graders only) or an Arts and Culture Blogging (ABC) Class (11-12th graders who scored 65+ on Regents or 35+ on PSAT Reading)
                                    ·         Where: Hunter College at East 68th St. in Manhattan
                                    ·         When: ESL is on Tues/Thurs 4-5:30pm from Feb. 6th to May 28th
                                                             ABC is on Sat. 11am-2pm from Feb. 25th to June 2nd

                                    2. College Bound Program                               DEADLINE: 2/3                                    
                                    ·         Who: 9-12th graders
                                    ·         What: Take free SAT prep and College essay writing classes, go on college visits        and learn about college applications and financial aid
                                    ·         Where: LIU (10 min. from BIHS)
                                    ·         When: Saturdays from 9am-12pm, January through May 2012

                                    3. The WISH Project                                       DEADLINE:2/15                                                   
                                    ·         Who: 11th grade girls. Must have B average or higher. Must be US citizens.
                                    ·         What: Explore careers in Math, Science, Engineering and Technology. Spend the summer at NASA Johnson Space Center working on a project with female engineers and other students.
                                    ·         Where & When: Online during the school year and at the NASA Space Center in Houston, Texas during the summer (all expenses paid)

                                    4. College Now@John Jay College     DEADLINE:2/18                               
                                    ·         Who: 11-12th graders
                                    ·         What: Take college-credit courses in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Ethic Studies or Social Action 101***
                                    ·         Where: John Jay College of Criminal Justice (W. 57th St. in Manhattan)
                                    ·         When: Mon/Tues, Wed/Th 4-6pm or Saturdays 10am-2pm from February through May 2012

                                    ***Social Action 101 is open to 9-12th graders. No test score requirement! You will learn to put ideas into action for the common good by exploring careers such as politics, business, journalism, law enforcement and medicine. The workshop is for high school credit.
